What is Curcuma Angustifolia ?


This plant is mostly grown in the Indian sub-continent and is known also as Narrow-leaved Turmeric or the East Indian Arrowroot in English, while in Manipuri it is called yaipan. thadou kuki called this plant as aipah chappa, Tikhur in Hindi, and in the Tamilnadu state it is known as Koova.
The origin of this plant belongs to the plant kingdom of Plantae, clade: monocots, angiosperms, tracheophytes, and commelinids. This plant belongs to the family of Zingerbaceae and is under the order Zingerberales. Its genus name is Curcuma and its species is C. Augustifolia.
Medicinal value: This plant has been recognized as a medicinal herb, as it is nutritive and eaten as a non-irritating diet, alimentary canal irritations, pulmonary organ irritations, etc. It is found very helpful for infants as an alternative to milk for a shorter period of time.
